The Sam Houston Lady Broncos will need to defend their home floor today when they take on the Washington-Marion Lady Indians in District 5-4A action. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. with the boys' varsity game following.

The Lady Broncos (18-14, 0-7) are still looking for their first district win in a league that features three top-10 teams.

"Our district's loaded," said Sam Houston head coach Korey Arnold. "We have three teams in the top-10 of the state. Injuries have hurt, but the teams we've been playing against are really good. I feel like if we can get into the playoffs, we are not going to see anybody near the caliber of teams we've been playing the past couple of weeks. We are just trying to get in right now."

Arnold said that he feels that his Lady Broncos can get into the postseason with a win in one of the last three games of the regular season.

"We've put ourselves in a hole the past couple of weeks losing some games," said Arnold. "We have three games left and we have to win one of these three to get in (the playoffs)."

The Lady Indians come into Moss Bluff ranked No. 9 in Class 4A, but are even in district 3-3 (20-4 overall).

The Lady Broncos' coach said that Sam Houston will have to be able to do the fundamental things right in order to be in position for the victory.

"When they foul us, we've got to make free throws," stated Arnold. "When we do break the press, we have to make the lay up. The key is we have to make the small things happen. I think if we can play a complete four quarters and limit our turnovers and do some things we've been talking about at practice, I think we will have a chance to compete with them and ultimately have a chance to win.

"We've been having a couple good days of practice and we are getting some kids back healthy, which helps. Hopefully that leads to a win Friday."

Friday will be the last District 5-4A game for Sam Houston before they close the regular season with North Vermillion and at Avoyelles.

The Sam Houston Broncos will have a tough task in the No. 7 Washington-Marion Chargin' Indians.

The Broncos are coming off a 55-47 loss to Jennings on Tuesday, but only lost to the Indians 71-66 in their last match-up.

With a win, Sam Houston has an opportunity to keep pace for third in District 5-4A with St. Louis.
