The Sam Houston Lady Bronco softball team are looking for their third consecutive trip to the Fast Pitch 56 state softball tournament but they must keep their attention focused on the first two rounds of the Class 4A playoffs.
No. 3 Sam Houston (23-4-1) opens the post season today with a bi-district game against No. 30 (8-8) Woodlawn-Shreveport in Moss Bluff at 5 p.m.
“We finished the (regular) season swinging the bats well,” Sam Houston head coach Beth Domingue said. “I think that is good going into the payoffs with that.
“I think we should beat them if we play our game but anything can happen.”
While they do have several players from last year’s 4A semifinal team, Sam Houston has two freshman and a sophomore in their starting lineup that have no seen time in a playoff game before. Underclassmen in the lineup up are sophomore center fielder Brooke Rozas, and freshman Baylee Corbello (pitcher), Kim Cain (second) and Tori Lantz (shortstop).
“I think we are the same,” Domingue said. “We have more freshman on the field this year.
“I think that is going to be a big difference. I hope no one tenses up especially my sophomores and freshman.”
