The Sam Houston Broncos completed a three-game season series sweep of the Jennings Bulldogs with a 9-2 win on Thursday night in Moss Bluff.
With the win, the Broncos (18-10, 8-0) are a win away from clinching their third district title in a row.
Sam Houston's Cody Rider had a rough start loading the bases with no one out, but was able to get Travis Legros out at the plate on a pickoff and struck out the side to end the threat.
From that point on, Rider sat down the Bulldogs (14-10, 3-5) in order in the second and third innings before allowing a solo home run to Kelsey Richard to tie the game 1-1 in the fourth inning.
The Broncos' offense quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth when Ethan Logan drove home Evan Powell on a single to left-center to break the tie. Garrett Logan followed with a two-run blast over the left field fence to spur a six-run inning for Sam Houston to take a 7-1 lead.
"I thought it was a real good response for our offense," said Broncos' head coach Brad Book. "Cody was on cruise control going through their lineup and after losing the lead there in the fourth inning it was a good response for our offense to score six runs."
Rider pitched six complete innings for Sam Houston and allowed just one earned run on three hits with 12 strikeouts
"Cody had his best outing as a Bronco tonight," Book said. "{He had good velocity and threw his breaking ball for a strikes. I thought he had a great night on the mound for us."
Ethan Logan led all batters with a 4-for-4 performance with two RBI's and two runs scored. Andrew Guillotte and Travis Montgomery each went 2-for-3 for Sam Houston with each hitting two doubles with an RBI.
Legros took the loss for Jennings lasting just three and a third while allowing six runs on seven hits with a strikeout and two walks.
The Bulldogs were led at the plate by Richard's home run while finishing the game with a 1-for-3 effort.
Sam Houston returns to action today when they host DeRidder at 6 p.m.
