The Krewe of Athena celebrated its 10th Anniversary Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Jan. 21. Emcees for the evening were Lee Peck of KPLC-TV and Kellie Hutchinson. Music was by the Stormy Band of Baton Rouge, and Southern DJ Productions provided for a great evening of fun and entertainment.

Christmas lights at Prien Lake Park return for the holidays

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury's annual Christmas Light Display returns to Prien Lake Park beginning November 25, at dusk. Toy soldiers, Santa's elves and reindeer will illuminate the park for patrons to enjoy this holiday season.

CCOA Hallloween Bash; October 30

Photos by Susan Kyle Seniors in the area had a blast at the Halloween Bash and Health Fair. Held Friday, Oct. 30, at Sulphur Parks and Recreation, the event began with Continental breakfast. Sam Hewitt and Louisiana Dust from Sulphur set up to get the group tapping their feet. A few danced. Door prizes were presented to the lucky winners and then the costume contest featured about 30 entries. Lou Lewis of Lake Charles gained first dressed as a black eyed pea; second place was won by Pearl Landerman of Iowa, the Pink Panther; and Joseph Picard of Sulphur took third as a fearsome pirate. A health fair was there representing over 20 health services. The event was sponsored by Ronnie Johns Insurance Agency, Humana Hospital, North Sulphur Knights of Columbus Council No. 8978 and SPAR. United Way and Calcasieu Council on Aging worked on the planning. Barbeque lunches were served. Special thanks to Mona Pellerin, Sulphur Senior Center Coordinator; Mayor of Sulphur, Chris Duncan; Dana Keel, representing CITGO who donated light bulbs; Jackie Green, CCOA new director; Angie Herr, program manager; and the Sulphur Fire Department.

Calling all area patriotic residents: Red, White, Blue and You 4th of July Festival seeking participants

Anyone who would like to parade their love of country is invited to decorate their floats, trucks and cars with red, white and blue decorations.  Line up begins at 4 p.m. and the parade rolls at 6 p.m. from Mill Street. The parade will travel south on Ryan Street, ending at Sallier Street. There is no entry fee; however, pre-registration is requested by Wednesday, July 1...
