But on Friday and Saturday, December 15 and 16, drivers were surprised to find Sulphur Police officers handing out Christmas gifts instead of tickets.
Patrol officers with the Sulphur Police Department spent a few days near crossing guards in school zones.
Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats told the Daily News that the officers decided they wanted to do something special this year. “They paid for the presents with their own money,” Coats said.
Officers also handed out gifts around the city on Saturday.
