Trivia Contest

Teams of eight gathered at the West Cal Events Center in 2017 for the First Sunrise Rotary Club Trivia Night, answering 40 questions in four categories. Here a team ponders an answer before writing it down during the competition.

Three Event Highlights

1. The West Cal Events Center will come alive for the second straight year on Thursday, May 3, when the Sulphur Sunrise Rotary Club will host its fundraiser Trivia Night, a contest for the West Calcasieu community to come together and test its collective knowledge on a wide array of topics. The fundraiser is the brainchild of long time Rotarian R.K. Levens.

2. Teams purchase a sponsorship of eight seats at a table for $500 and sit and enjoy a catered meal and open bar. A fellowship ensues prior to the first question, then alliances are formed and all bets are off as far as friendship is concerned. In 2017, the club decided to donate its leftover catered food to A City of Refuge, a facility in Vinton dedicated to helping veterans who may need a hand.

3. In the first trivia contest in 2017, Westlake Chemical took home the first place prize money of $800, outlasting every other table at the end of 40 questions. There are four categories featuring 10 questions in each. Second and third place teams had to go to overtime last year with SPOT and Edward D. Jones tying in regulation. Three bonus questions were asked and nothing was decided — the two teams tied for second.
