A possible development in Carlyss is apparently a no-go. Owners of property near Hwy 27 South and Burleson Road had planned to petition the Parish Planning and Zoning Board on Tuesday night to rezone it from Mixed Residential to Multi-Family Residential, allowing 33 duplexes to be built on the site. That petition was withdrawn before the meeting, sometime Tuesday afternoon. The planned development was hotly contested by residents of the area.
"I would term it as 100 percent of the Carlyss area being against it," said Police Juror Ellis Hassien.
He listed issues such as drainage, traffic, and little road frontage as main reasons for the opposition.
"The majority of the property was a landlocked piece and that's what caused the problems with the neighbors around it," said Hassien.
"The density was not a fit for that area," he added.
Mikey Kile, of Westlake, was the developer interested in building the duplexes on the site.
