As reported by Sulphur Police Chief Chris Abrahams, on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at approximately 10:10 a.m., a 2000 Buick Lesabre, driven by Alton J. Savant, 81 of Sulphur crashed into the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital building near the northeast corner.
According to witnesses, Savant exited the northeast exit of the parking lot hitting a 2001 Ford Ranger driven by Judson McCord, 18 of Lake Charles. The Buick spun around and proceeded forward then back across the two lanes hitting another vehicle driven by Elenor Stalker of Lake Charles before crossing a parking lot curb driving between two parked vehicles into the building.
Savant’s vehicle entered an unoccupied room on the first floor of the hospital causing a minimal amount of damage to the hospital as area impacted was not in a load bearing area, according to a statement released by the hospital.
Appropriate action was immediately taken by emergency responders. No injuries were sustained in the accident, and everyone was wearing seat belts.
