Terrance Simien, Susan Cowsill & Friends
Grammy-winner Terrance Simien will take the stage at 7 p.m. at Central School Theatre, Wednesday, November 12. Terrance and his band will perform songs from across his two-decades-plus career in the company of soulful guest vocalist, songwriter Susan Cowsill.
Tickets for the November 12 date are on sale until 4 p.m. the day of the concert online at www.louisianacrossroads.eventbrite.com or at the Arts and Humanities Council on the second floor of Central School, 809 Kirby Street. Mistletoe & Moss
Back for their 16th Anniversary, Mistletoe and Moss Holiday Market will open the doors of the Civic Center Wed., Nov. 12 for a preview party from 7-10 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person. Fri., Nov. 14 will feature the Fashion Show Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., and Friday Night Family Bingo from 6-8 p.m. Tickets for the luncheon are $20 per person and should be pre-purchased, and tickets for bingo begin at $12. Santa and Friends will be on Sat., Nov. 15 with three seatings, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., 10 – 11 a.m. and 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. General marketplace hours are Thurs. 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Fri. 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sat. 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, and children eight and younger get in free. Art on Wheels
New to the Lake Charles scene, Art on Wheels invites motorcycle enthusiasts out to L’Auberge du Lac Casino Resort to showcase their unique paint jobs- from crazy colors to amazing scenes…all painted on their motorcycles. The festivities start on Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. and will last until 8 p.m. Sat., Nov. 15; gates are open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. There will be an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. on Nov. 15. Attic Sale
The Imperial Calcasieu Museum will be hosting their “Upscale Attic Sale” Wed. – Sat., Nov. 14-16. Stop by the museum to peruse your not-so-typical sale! Memory Walk
The 2008 Memory Walk will be held Sat., Nov. 15 at Prien Lake Park at 9 a.m. Registration for the walk begins at 7:30 a.m. Walk to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s. Walk for someone you know, someone you love, or just because you care. If you don’t want to walk, but would like to donate, log onto www.alz.org for more information. Teams are forming for this walk now, so be sure to get involved!

November 15 & 16
Jennie Finch Softball Camp
USA Olympic Gold Medalist Jennie Finch and her teammates will be hosting a softball camp at North Frasch Softball Complex, Nov. 15-16. Registration is $200 and open to girls in 4th grade and up. Join the team for two days of instruction, covering all aspects of softball. Campers will need to bring their own gloves and equipment. GED Program On-line
A GED Distance Education program is now being offered by the Lifelong Learning Center! The Learning Center’s distance education program is available to adults wanting to prepare for the GED test from the comfort of their own home, library, or anyplace with Internet access.
On Monday, November 17, 2008, from 9:30 – 3:30, the Literacy Council will conduct enrollment and testing for all adult learners interested in distance education at the Calcasieu Workforce Center on Fifth Avenue. This will be followed by a 9:30 – 12:30 orientation on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
There is a $25 Registration Fee for the class. Only a limited number of Distance Education seats are available. Call 494-7000 for more information, or to register for the GED Distance Education program.

November 19 - 22
LHSAA State Swim Meet
Cheer on high school swimmers from around the state of Louisiana at the LHSAA State Swim Meet at Sulphur Parks Aquatic Center in Sulphur, Nov. 19-22. Division IV swimmers will be on Wed., Division III on Thurs., Division II on Fri. and Division I on Sat. SHS Scavenger Hunt
Sulphur High School will be having a scavenger hunt to benefit Care/Help of Sulphur Thursday, November 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Basic household items, canned food, and baby items will be collected. November 22 & 23
Lake Charles Gun & Knife Show
The Civic Center will be a hunters paradise Nov. 22-23, chock full of guns, knives, jewelry and other accessories to make your hunting season complete. Admission is $6 per person, with children twelve and younger getting in free. For details on the show, visit www.gatorguns.com.

Community Thanksgiving
The Maplewood-Hollywood Lions Club is looking for volunteers to help serve Thanksgiving at Sulphur Parks Aquatic Center in Sulphur. The festivities will begin at 9:30 with a prayer service, and dinner will be served at 10:30 a.m. Join in the fun for a day of great food and lots of fun. Creole Nature Trail Update
The Creole Nature Trail is temporarily closed due to Hurricane Ike. Sabine National Wildlife Refuge remains closed after the impacts of Hurricane Ike. The refuge has received damage throughout, including recreation areas. Lacassine Wildlife Refuge is closed to fishing, now – Mar. 15, 2009. It is currently open for archery white-tail deer hunting and wildlife observation. Sabine Refuge will not be open to hunting for the 2008-2009 Waterfowl season. Many of the guide services located in Cameron are offering limited services at this time. If you have a trip scheduled with any guide in the area, please contact them directly for more information.

Sulphur Artists’ Exhibit at Henning House
The Brimstone Historical Society is proud to display the work of Kelly Keers and Gloria Yang at the Henning Cultural Center. The exhibit will remain open through November 20. The Center’s hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, please call 527-0357.

Days of the Dead
The Imperial Calcasieu Museum is celebrating Mexican history, remembrance and family through their exhibit, Days of the Dead. Art students of Calcasieu Parish are exploring this important Mexican holiday through artwork.  The museum’s hours are Tues. – Sat., 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For details, call (337) 439-3797. Ribbons of Hope
Join Humans Involved in Victory over AIDS and the Southwest Louisiana AIDS Council for the opening night reception of the HIV Awareness art exhibit at 1911 Historic City Hall in Lake Charles. Honors Program & Exhibit
You are invited to come and celebrate Zydeco music and express appreciation to the 14 honorees that have made significant contributions in preserving the Zydeco legacy in Southwest Louisiana.  On the walls of the Black Heritage Gallery will be portraits of Louisiana Zydeco legends and rising stars including BooZoo Chavis, Rockin’Sidney, Lawrence Ardoin, Keith Frank and others, all sketched by visual artist Adrian Fulton. Tasha Tudor’s Spirit of the Holidays
Tasha Tudor has been known for her original artwork for greeting cards and children’s books. Now, see first-issue holiday cards, photographs, miniature doll cards and more all commemorating Tudor’s life. This exhibit is located on the 3rd floor of 1911 Historic City Hall and will be open through January 17. Care/Help of Sulphur Bible Study Classes
Study the Bible with Pauline Rogers and Betty Coleman feeding your soul with basic Bible truths that can change your life for the better and forever. Classes are held every Tuesday morning at Care Help of Sulphur’s Social Service waiting room from 9 to 10 a.m. at 200 North Huntington St. We will have Bible’s available for each person attending. Don’t be intimidated by God’s very own words written especially for you, His child, as a guide for you life. You will be amazed at how basic God’s principles are to improve your life in getting closer to Him. This class is free and open to everyone regardless of income and open to all denominations. We look forward to meeting you as we start a journey getting to know each other in fellowship and discovering what God has to say to us through His written Word.  No sign up, just show up as you are!

POMC Monthly Meeting
The montly meeting for the parents of murdered children is held on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at 2409 2nd Street (across from St. Henry’s Church in Lake Charles). POMC is a support group helping families, friends and survivors of homicide with the resolution of grief. For more information, call 583-2602.
