The man suspected of killing a police officer at Virginia Tech University was not a student, officials reported. They also identified the officer who was killed: Deriek Crouse.

The second person who was found dead was killed with the same gun as the officer was, and police believe he was the shooter. Officials said they will reveal his identity after an official investigation and notification.

Crouse, 39, joined the Virginia Tech police force after the 2007 massacre at the school, according to Virginia Tech. He was an Army veteran and is survived by his wife and five children and stepchildren.
