  • Kale Breaux mowed down batter after batter on Tuesday as he pitched his first career no-hitter to lead the Sulphur Tors to a 2-1 win at New Iberia.
Breaux struckout a career-high 19 including four in the first and fifth inning. The win brings Breaux's record to 4-1 with a 0.51 earned run average. It was his fifth game this year with 10 or more strikeouts.
The last two known no-hitters for the Tors came in 2011 and 1999. Matt Pago pitched a no-hitter in a 12-0 five-inning win over Leesville on March 3, 2011 while Nick Stewart struck out nine in an 11-0 five-inning no-hitter at New Iberia on April 6, 1999.
Breaux struck out four in the first inning but it was hit lone walk of the game that lead to the Yellow Jackets (9-10, 1-3) only run. Brendan Boudreaux drew a base on balls with one out and scored after a pair of dropped third strikes.
Austin Nelson provided all the offense the Tors needed after driving in both runs. He tied the game in the bottom of the first with his fourth homerun of the season. Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to left field with one out in the seventh to score Breaux for the game winner. Breaux reached base on a single.
Four New Iberia pitchers combined to hold Sulphur to two hits with Trevor Benoit taking the loss. He pitched two and two-third innings and allowed one run one hit with one strikeout.
The Tors (14-9, 2-2) will return home on Thursday to host Carencro (12-7, 1-3) at 4 p.m. and will travel to Sam Houston (14-7, 3-1) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
