LAKE CHARLES — Felix Vail, 73, was indicted Thursday by a Calcasieu Parish grand jury on a second degree murder charge. He is accused of the Oct. 1962 death of his wife, Mary Horton Vail, whose body was pulled from the Calcasieu River. At the time of her death, Vail told deputies that his wife had accidentally drowned.
A hearing is set for Aug. 14 to determine if Vail can afford to pay for his own defense or if the Calcasieu Public Defenders Office will assist in the case.
Vail is also a suspect in the possible deaths of a girlfriend and another wife. He was the last known person to have seen girlfriend Sharon Hensley, who went missing in 1973, and second wife Annette Craver Vail, who disappeared in 1984.
