As the temperatures drop and squirrel and deer season open, hunters will once again travel to the Kisatchie National Forest. The Kisatchie National Forest has been a popular destination for hunters for many years. The pine hills and hardwood bottoms provide outstanding habitat for white-tail deer, squirrels, rabbits and other game species.
Hunters and campers are urged to be very careful with fire. Louisiana continues to suffer from on of the most severe droughts ever recorded. Currently, camp fires are allowed only in fire rings within national forest recreation areas. Cooking fires are allowed in propane cookers and charcoal grills and other vessels made for that purpose in developed recreation areas and in the general forest area. We urge everyone to be safe while hunting and in camp and enjoy the forest.
For additional fire information or for forest maps please contact any of the six national forest offices or the Kisatchie National Forest headquarters in Pineville, at 318-473-7160.
